Four alumni from the same FilmSchoolSF and a renegade from Class 9 of the got together for two days in September to shoot a short film titled ‘Shadow Angel.’
The story centers on a stressed-out father whose comic-loving daughter is proving to be a handful. When an attempted mugging pushes him over the edge, the father confronts the comic book store owner and, as a result, learns a bit about himself – and his daughter.
“I loved working on Shadow Angel with my tried and true crew from the FilmSchoolSF Fiction Workshop,” said writer/director, Heather Donnell.
Filmmaker and workshop alum Patrick Eggert was excited enough to fly down from Oregon just to be able to work with friends on a great project. And Heather scored big by convincing the accomplished actor (Pale Rider, Back to the Future 2 + 3, Two Mothers) to play the curious comic book store owner.
Said Patrick Eggert, “wOOt!! W00T!! What?!?!”
Chris Smith, DP and level-headed, pre-production-thinker-type said, “Shadow Angel was a product of friendships formed at FilmSchoolSF. It was a great shoot and we’re excited to continue working together making bigger and better films.”
Interestingly, Don Williams, who plays the Father in Shadow Angel, also found a key role as a Doctor in the – produced film . “I had no idea Don was in PIA, said PIA co-producer and Shadow Angel assistant director, Christopher F. Smith. I turned the corner to the make-up room and there he was!
The film is now being submitted to a couple dozen festivals around the country and Donnell is confident that Shadow Angel will do well.
